Steel Rebar And Mesh Locator Service

The structural integrity of a concrete slab relies upon the supporting skeleton of steel reinforcing bar (ie. rebar) that gives reinforced concrete its tensile strength. Ground Penetrating Radar (GPR) is best suited to concrete scanning for rebar mapping surveys as there is a significant contrast in density between the concrete and the steel rebar. You may be about to undertake a renovation or demolition on a building, so it is imperative that you have the concrete mapped prior to any cutting, drilling or boring. Damage to the steel rebar can drastically affect the tensile strength of the concrete and potentially lead to expensive repairs, building condemnation or catastrophic structural failure. Our highly skilled technicians trained in GPR rebar scanning will map out your structure so that you can safely and accurately perform your work without the risk of structural damage.

Know What You Are Working On

Prior to commencing work on a concrete structure, it is important to be fully aware of its structural properties. Not all concrete surfaces within a building or structure have been prepared the same way and as such not all will share the same structural integrity as each other. Prior to beginning any work, it is important to ensure that the building is strong enough to withstand the planned modifications. Our reinforcement scanning can identify reinforcements in the concrete, giving you accurate information with which to conduct your work. You will be kept up to date throughout the scanning and reporting process and any restrictions or limitations will be clearly communicated to you with ample opportunity for questions or clarification. While GPR concrete scanning is highly accurate, limitations can include:

  • Fresh concrete not having cured completely
  • The slab has an inconsistent surface
  • Poor signal penetration to the bottom of the slab due to very high top reinforcement density
  • The depth of the slab may be too great to provide a complete scan of its internal structure

We never take your safety for granted and ensure that all surveys are completed to the highest standard to protect the structure and those who are working on it.

How We Operate

Maintaining safety at your worksite is our fundamental objective and filters down to everything we do and how we do it. Communication and transparency are key components of our service and we deliver on our promises. Our scans are followed up by a comprehensive report in PDF format that summarises our findings with descriptions and pictures that clearly explains the colour-coded markings. The report is easy to understand and is designed to provide peace of mind that you are fully aware of what you’re working on.

The report will be written with you in mind and will be laid out to ensure absolute transparency and ease of understanding. We are available to answer any questions you may have both on-site during the inspection and after. Schedule permitting we are able to attend your site on the same day as your booking.

A Highly Specialised Team

We train our technicians and qualify them to scan and analyse concrete structures using ground penetrating radar (GPR). All members of our team have undertaken GPR rebar locator training with the head geophysicist at Mala GPR, a leading manufacturer of high-precision GPR equipment. We have worked with clients in many sectors from all across Sydney in providing steel rebar scanning. Our expertise and commitment to safety and client satisfaction ensure we are the ultimate partner for your next reinforcement scanning job.
